THE HEART OF DOWNTOWN

Since its beginnings, lively Livingston, Montana has attracted an eclectic crowd: ranchers and railroaders, writers and wanderers, anglers and artists.

Located in the heart of Livingston’s shopping, dining and cultural district since 1904, the Murray Hotel has welcomed them all. Our 25 rooms and suites offer guests a taste of history with modern comfort and convenience.

In 2015, late travel show host and chef Anthony Bourdain listed the Murray as one of his top 10 favorite places to stay. “A hotel where I know immediately where I am when I open my eyes in the morning is a rare joy,” he wrote.

COMFORT & BEAUTY

A rooftop patio off of the fourth floor offers a wondrous view of the town center and the surrounding mountains where guests are welcome to bring up drinks and commiserate with friends and family. Our Mezzanine also has a small office space where guests may print out boarding passes or check their emails. The area also has a simple sitting space where guests may read the Livingston Enterprise or Bozeman Chronicle. Three restaurants connect with the grand lobby of the hotel with the superb 2nd Street Bistro providing classy French and Italian cuisine. Classic American bar fare may be enjoyed in The Murray Bar along with cocktails, local Montana beer, and you can boogie down with live music which plays almost every night. Start off the day right with fresh breakfast or brunch in Gil's Goods Cafe, where guests may partake in any of the pastries and baked goods handmade daily in-house.

We here at The Murray Hotel want you to love Montana just as much as we do and that's why we've been welcoming guests since 1904.

HISTORY & HOLLYWOOD

Since its grand opening in 1904, the Murray Hotel’s guest registry has been more like a who’s who of history and Hollywood. Celebrities such as Buffalo Bill and Calamity Jane have graced the threshold of what was once “the” elegant railroad hotel. The Murray was also home to Walter Hill, son of railroad tycoon, James J. Hill. More recently, colorful personalities like motion-picture director, Sam Peckinpah, rented what had been the largest suite in the place, built originally for an heir to the Burlington railroad fortune.

The Queen of Denmark once spent the night, but her impressions went unrecorded. Humorist Will Rogers and his buddy Walter Hill, must have been satisfied. They liked the place well enough they tried to bring a favorite saddle horse to a third floor suite, via the hand-cranked, 1905 Otis elevator.

To this day, Livingston attracts a steady stream of writers, musicians, and movie stars.

INVITING & MEMORABLE STYLE

Each accommodation has its own bathroom, modern heating/cooling amenities, and access to the hotel's WiFi network. Suites are more spacious with the majority of them having a separate sitting area for relaxing or entertaining guests and a kitchenette for either sharing a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at night. The Murray holds great pride in its decor which focuses on providing warmth and comfort for those who stay here but still maintains a nod to the timeless heydays of easy-going cowboys in the Wild West and the railroad tourism of the twentieth century which originally breathed life into the cozy little town of Livingston. There is no standard room look at The Murray; every room has its own style to make each more inviting and memorable for our discerning guests.
